RCL – Improving Compliance and Governance for Enhanced Sustainability

The “Improving Compliance and Governance for Enhanced Sustainability Project” is part of RCL’s Enhanced Sustainability Programme and is funded by AgriSETA.

The programme is a 2-year governance and business compliance training and mentorship programme and incorporates specific role players from 35 associations/cooperatives plus 5 land reform entities.

The objective of the programme is to develop specific people at the entities to facilitate the growth of their businesses through the development of improved business processes, financial and administrative management skills, understanding of the sugar industry and the use of technology to improve overall efficiency.

Key tasks:

    The Programme includes:

    1. Group Training Sessions. These sessions bring together the delegates from the entities in order that they can share their own experiences and learning from the programme and build a community-of-practice spirit amongst themselves.

    1. Individual Training and Mentorship sessions. Conducted on a bi-weekly basis at the delegate’s office, this one-on-one coaching equips the delegate to understand good governance and to work towards bringing the entity to a good compliance status. These sessions also provide the opportunity to upskill the delegate on financial management, administrative and IT technology.

    1. Business Compliance and Governance Progress Audit sessions. To ensure that relevant and meaningful progress is made to bring the entity to a satisfactory level of compliance, monthly audits are conducted and compared to a Baseline figure which is obtained at the commencement of the programme. The progress is measured in % terms.
